Hi, I’m Steph,
Koselig Wellness was born from a longing for softer forms of care. The kind that invite the nervous system to settle, the mind to quiet and the body to feel gently supported.
Rooted in therapeutic touch, restorative rest and sensory care, my offerings weave together kowy rituals, therapeutic hair brushing, reflexology, facial massage and sound to create spaces that feel grounding, nurturing and deeply human.
Koselig {koosh-lee} is a Norwegian word describing a feeling of warmth, comfort and the ultimate coziness created by a person, place or atmosphere. That feeling lives at the heart of everything I create.
This work is an invitation to slow down, soften and simply receive.
My Why
The Beginning of Koselig
I started Koselig Wellness & Retreats in February of 2023 as a passion project rooted in a desire to provide loving support for postpartum women. I myself experienced a difficult and traumatic postpartum journey and once I was through the darkness, I reflected on the kinds of care I would have deeply benefited from had they been available.
One of those things sounds so simple: gentle, soft, non-intimate, therapeutic touch.
While many wellness spaces offer different forms of touch, I found myself searching for something very specific. Something that can only really be described as gentle tracing and ASMR-like tingling touch that brings back memories of childhood.
Like having my hair played with by my grandmother or mother while their fingertips softly traced along my skin, face and back until I fell asleep.
Or sitting in circles as a little girl with my friends and sisters, tracing patterns and symbols onto each other’s backs.
That specific offering did not exist in the way I envisioned it, so I began creating it.
From that dream, Koselig Wellness was born and from those roots based in therapeutic touch, all of my offerings began to bloom.
The Heart of Kowy
The word “Kowy” (co-ee) was created by my grandmother and passed down to my mother. It simply means “soft, gentle touch.”
Over time, it has evolved to mean so much more to me.
My grandmother’s house was always deeply koselig. It was warm, soft, safe and comforting in a way that stayed with me long after childhood. Re-creating the feelings I experienced in her home through my own space and offerings is something I strive for deeply within Koselig Wellness.
I believe touch is sacred and something many of us are deeply lacking in today’s world.
Kowy is rooted in safe, nurturing touch designed to support nervous system regulation and deep restorative rest. Through gentle tracing, calming ASMR-like sensations using my hands and different sensory tools and compassionate care, the body is invited to soften into rest while the mind begins to quiet.
It is a feeling I loved deeply as a child and still cherish to this day.
Another thing I loved as a child was having my hair brushed and played with. Offering therapeutic hair brushing alongside nurturing touch, scalp massage and calming head care feels deeply aligned with the heart of Koselig and has become one of the most meaningful parts of this work for me.
Expanding the Practice
As Koselig continued to grow, so did my desire to deepen my understanding of the body, the nervous system and the many ways humans experience care, regulation and rest.
This led me to become a certified reflexologist and a member in good standing with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC).
Studying reflexology expanded my understanding of therapeutic touch and the profound connection between the body, stress, tension and the nervous system. It taught me to listen more intentionally through my hands and approach the body with greater presence, gentleness and care.
Reflexology continues to influence my practice, shaping the way I hold space, work intuitively and support clients in softening into rest and regulation.
I have also trained as a sound bowl practitioner, further expanding my offerings beyond touch alone and into the calming and restorative power of sound and vibration. Sound has the ability to gently quiet the mind, ground the body and create space for stillness in a world that often feels overstimulating and overwhelming.
Beyond Kowy and therapeutic hair brushing, I am also certified in facial massage including intra-oral buccal massage, TMJ release work, facial lymphatic drainage, gua sha and facial cupping.
As humans, we often carry immense stress, emotion and tension within the face and jaw. These treatments are designed to help release that tension while supporting circulation, depuffing, relaxation and the natural sculpting of the facial muscles.
Beyond the Treatment Room
I also hold seasonal retreats, one-of-a-kind Kowy and therapeutic hair brushing circles and restorative community gatherings rooted in softness, connection and nervous system care.
Most of these offerings take place in co-creation out at The Sacred Woods Care Farm just outside of Edmonton, Alberta, where nature, animal connection, sound, gentle touch and community intertwine to create deeply grounding and restorative experiences.
Alongside these restorative offerings, I also co-create whimsical woodland-inspired gatherings and children’s experiences through Wings & Wonderlings, blending imagination, nature, creativity, animal connection and wonder in ways that invite both children and adults to reconnect with softness, play and magic.
