  • An intraoral buccal {buh·kl} massage is a type of massage that focuses on the muscles inside the mouth, specifically the buccinator muscles. These muscles are located in the cheeks and are responsible for helping us chew and speak.

During an intraoral buccal massage, the therapist will use their gloved fingers to apply pressure to the buccinator muscles from inside the mouth. This can help to release tension and improve circulation in the muscles, which can be helpful for those who suffer from TMJ or other jaw-related issues.

In addition to the benefits for the jaw muscles, intraoral buccal massage has also been referred to as the “ultimate facelift alternative” and can help to improve the appearance of the skin around the mouth and cheeks. By improving circulation and promoting lymphatic drainage, this type of massage can reduce puffiness and dark circles under the eyes, as well as improves the overall lift, tone and texture of the skin.

The results from buccal intraoral massage can be seen after only one treatment however it is advised to come for 3-4 treatments (once per week) to begin and then be seen for regular monthly maintenance.

Buccal massage is considered a non-invasive treatment, but it can cause some tenderness as well as light bruising on some people. It’s rare but can happen. At any time during your treatment you are free to adjust pressure or stop should it be at all uncomfortable.

  • Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing technique that involves using a tool to scrape the skin in a specific pattern. The tool is typically made of jade, rose quartz, or another smooth stone, and is used to apply pressure to the skin in a way that promotes circulation and lymphatic drainage.

During your Therapeutic Gua Sha session however, the therapist will apply an oil on the skin and then use the tool to glide along the skin in long smooth strokes, typically in the direction of the lymphatic flow. Therapeutic Gua sha in this way is used as a complementary therapy after your facial and buccal massage to further aid in relaxation and improving the appearance of the skin, reducing puffiness and dark circles under the eyes, lymphatic drainage and promoting overall wellness.

  • Facial cupping is a non-invasive facial treatment that involves using small suction cups to massage and stimulate the skin. The cups are typically made of silicone or glass and come in a variety of sizes and shapes to fit different areas of the face.

During your facial cupping session, the therapist will apply an oil to the skin and then use the cups to create a gentle suction. The cups are then moved in a specific pattern across the face, which can help to improve circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and reduce puffiness and inflammation.

Facial cupping can also be helpful for improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as promoting overall skin health and radiance. It is a gentle and relaxing treatment that can be incorporated into a regular skincare routine for ongoing benefits.

  • During this part of your treatment your therapist will gently brush your hair using a variety of combs and bamboo brushes. They will also incorporate a scalp massager. Hair brushing is known to be soothing and provide the ultimate feelings of comfort and coziness.

  • Kowy is actually a made up word passed down from a number of generations of mothers and grandmothers to daughters and granddaughters. It means, in short, “gentle touch”. It is like a light tickling and non-intimate touching of the face using tools as well as finger tips. It is used to offer deep relaxation and the ultimate soothing comfort.

  • Flower essences are created by infusing the bloom’s particular vibration into water and then stabilizing it. Infusing the bloom captures the energy imprint, or vibration of the flower - which is its unique healing quality. A flower essence contains no physical substance (such as an herbal formulation or essential oil) ofthe plant, only its healing property.

The act of using flower essences can change your mood and outlook in an empowering way. You may feel more creative, self-assured, focused and confident.

The unique blends I’ve chosen from The Flower Apothecary offer stress relief, self love, confidence, joy and help offset and balance negative emotions.

  • For the intraoral part of your treatment latex free medical grade gloves will be worn by the therapist. Your therapist will also wear a mask during the times when the client’s mouth is open for an extended period of time to prevent any transfer of particles. At any time should the fingers within the mouth need to be switched the gloves will be removed and replaced with new gloves.

All tools, brushes, sheets, equipment, towels, handles and bottles are fully and entirely cleaned and disinfected before each client.

Hands are thoroughly washed prior to treatment and hand sanitizer is used throughout the treatment by the therapist at any time hands may have touched anything besides the face.

  • You can, but your face will be thoroughly washed, cleansed and wiped down at the beginning of your treatment.

  • It’s totally up to you! I will be wearing a mask during your intraoral buccal massage so don’t worry if you had garlic for lunch! There is also a bathroom available to you should you want to brush your teeth prior to your treatment.

  • One treatment alone yields visible and remarkable outer results. As well you will leave with overall internal feelings of lightness, calm and wellbeing.

If you are seeking buccal mostly for it’s sculpting and shaping benefits I recommend new clients try 3-4 treatments (once per week) and then monthly maintenance.
